Oui, vous commencez à avoir l’habitude de mes périodes creuses, et j’en suis que désolé, mais j’avais des choses plus urgentes à faire. La principale raison de mon absence est la casse de ma xbox, que j’ai vraiment la flemme de réparer. Du coup, il me reste qu’un vieux PC, sur lequel j’ai énormément de mal à faire tourner des jeux intéressants. Heureusement, j’ai réussi à squatter le premier Portal pendant 2 bonnes heures sur le PC familial. J’en suis resorti changé, et je vais tenter de vous décrire plus en détail les mécanismes de cette licence, qui m’ont laissés béat devant leur ingéniosité.
Enfin, vous direz “Ingéniosité ?”, certes l’idée en elle-même n’est pas éblouissante de par sa complexité, mais complètement originale et jamais vu. C’était donc pour l’époque un très joli lot de jeux que Valve mettait à disposition.
A la sortie du pack, c’est Portal qui a fait le plus de bruit, applaudi par la critique malgré sa faible durée de vie, il est, en très peu de temps, devenu une de licences que tout bon joueur se devait d’avoir au moins essayé dans sa vie (Une seule remarque sur le fait que j’y ai joué que très récemment, et je vous étripe !).
N’ayant pas eu l’occasion de le finir en entier, cet article sera plus que des simples impressions, mais moins complet qu’un bilan profond et détaillé de celui-ci.
Pour commencer, parlons du gameplay. Dans Portal, vous jouez en vue subjective (FPS). Concrètement, vous n’avez que pour seule arme une sorte de fusil capable de lancer deux portails de différente couleurs, l’un orange, l’autre bleu. Le but est de former un portail, de former le second, et qu’en traversant l’un, vous sortiez par l’autre, vous suivez ? De par ce simple concept, votre objectif sera de franchir des salles grouillantes d’obstacles (Tourelles, Murs, Liquide mortel, …). Vous franchirez les premières salles avec une aisance certaine, mais au fur et à mesure de votre avancée dans le jeu, les niveaux se corsent de plus en plus jusqu’à vous obliger à vous poser une bonne dizaine de minutes pour comprendre la façon de franchir la salle en question. Mais, le tout n’est pas de comprendre comment passer une salle, il faut avoir la technique. Au début, certes, c’est simple; Tu poses ton portail, tu poses l’autre portail, tu traverses et bingo, mais au fur et à mesure de votre avancée, le lancer de portails deviendra plus délicat, certains devant même s’effectuer dans les airs, ce qui nécessite des fois de mourir deux trois fois avant de gérer correctement le timing à avoir. Alors voilà, Portal est un jeu d’énigme et d’adresse; En plus de faire marcher la tête, il va vous falloir acquérir un certain niveau de précision dans les tirs afin d’espérer atteindre les niveaux les plus corsés. En somme, cette partie du jeu est juste fabuleuse, on ne s’ennuie jamais, les énigmes sont toujours variées, c’est un plaisir.
Passons aux graphismes. Le jeu datant déjà un peu, j’ai eu la possibilité d’y jouer avec tout les paramètres graphiques réglés au maximum, et je peux vous dire que de ce point de vue la, le jeu s’en sort très bien. Les décors sont extrêmement cohérents bien qu’un peu répétitifs (Ce qui est un peu normal, vu le scénario), quelques textures sont basiques (Tel que les sols mortels, ou les dalles) mais d’autres sont extrêmement bien faites (Caméras, Portal Gun, Cube). Les animations des objets sont correctes, point d’honneur sur le Portal Gun ou le recul du lancer de portail est super bien fait. En gros, les graphismes sont très agréables et respectent très bien l’univers auquel ils sont attachés.
Les deux derniers points que je mettrai en commun sont le scénario et leur durée de vie, les deux étant les principaux défauts du jeu. Pour commencer, le scénario est plutôt.. Bizarrement basique, on incarne une femme qui s’est faite enlevée et qui devient par le même coup le sujet de test d’une mystérieuse société. Voilà, c’est sur cette idée la que se base toute l’histoire de ce jeu. Si ce point est négatif, il permet aussi au joueur de ne pas trop s’immerger dans le scénario pour profiter pleinement du gameplay et n’avoir que ça en tête. La durée de vie maintenant. N’y ayant passé que deux heures, je n’ai pas pu arriver au bout de ce jeu, mais d’après la multitude d’échos que j’ai pu lire, le jeu penche dans les 5heures grand max, ce qui n’est pas beaucoup c’est vrai.
Malgré ces deux petits points faibles, Portal est devenu une référence dans le monde vidéo-ludique, et je soutiens les personnes qui disent que tout bon joueur se doit d’avoir au moins essayé une fois un des deux opus de Portal. A savoir que le premier opus dispose de DLC comportant des niveaux supplémentaires, de quoi prolonger le casse-tête ! A savoir aussi que l’engouement autour de cette licence a été telle que des studios indépendants ont fait pas mal de variantes du soft, une de mes préférées étant le jeu Mari0, qui mêle Portal à la licence phare de Nintendo, Super Mario Bros, le test de Mari0 est disponible sur ce blog, n’hésitez pas à le découvrir ou à le redécouvrir !
